Titusz Tóbisz

Tenor Titusz Tóbisz was born in Rimavská Sobota. After graduating, he developed his skills in guitar and singing in Budapest. In 2001, he became a soloist of the Army Art Ensemble Bratislava. He began studying opera singing at the age of 23 at the Košice Conservatory with Juraj Šomorjai. In addition to his studies in Košice, he began working at the Thalia Theatre.

Since 2010, he has been a guest soloist at the National Theatre in Miskolc where in 2012 he successfully performed the role of Jean Valjean in the musical Les Misérables, for which he won the "Voice of the Year" award. Since 2013, he has also been a guest at the National Theatre in Budapest.

In 2014, he became a soloist at the Košice State Theatre Opera, where he debuted as Canio in Leoncavallo's The Comedians, for which he was awarded the "Skokan of the Year" award. At the beginning of 2016, he performed Manrico in Verdi's Il Trovatore in a production at the National Theatre in Szeged. In the same year, he made his debut as Laca in Janáček's opera Jehová in Liberec, for which he was shortlisted for the 2017 Thalia Award. In 2017, he performed the main role in R. Wagner's The Fairies, for which he was awarded the Opera Critics' Award in the 2016/2017 Skokan of the Season category and also the Annual Award of the Slovak Literary Fund. He started the 2017/2018 season as Otello in Verdi's opera of the same name in Ostrava. In addition to the above-mentioned opera houses, he also performs in České Budějovice, Poznań, Szczecin, the New Stage in Bratislava, etc. In 2018, he was awarded the Harmonia Award in the category of Soloist of the Year 2018 in classical music. He was nominated for the Doska Award 2019 for his portrayal of Otello in Verdi's namesake opera.

Currently, in addition to opera and operetta stages, he performs in numerous concerts with philharmonics and at private events. He is a regular guest at the summer festival Musicales de Louvergny under the direction of conductor Paolo Gatto. In 2018, he played Laca Klemena at the prestigious international opera festival Janáček Brno in the famous version of Jenůfů in a co-production of the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie and the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
