Leoš Svárovský

He studied flute and conducting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague with Prof. Václav Neumann (as his last student). He began his career at the National Theatre in Prague as an assistant to Zdeněk Košler. In 1991, Herbert von Karajan invited him to collaborate with George Solti, Claudio Abad and the Vienna Philharmonic at the "Sommerspiele Salzburg".

Since the beginning of his career, he has served as chief conductor of outstanding orchestras: Chamber Opera Prague (1985-7), Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava (1991-93), State Philharmonic Brno (1991-95), Sinfonietta Žilina (1995-2000), Pardubice Chamber Philharmonic (1997-2009), National Theatre Ballet Orchestra Prague (2001-02), State Opera Prague (also artistic director, 2003-05). He is also a permanent guest conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic and an honorary member of the Brno Philharmonic.

Since spring 2014, he has been the chief conductor of the Aichi Central Symphony Orchestra Nagoya. He has been collaborating with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom he has undertaken a major tour of the United States, since 2001. He conducts the most famous orchestras around the world and collaborates with top soloists such as Josef Suk, Rudolf Firkušný, Václav Hudeček, Igor Ardašev, Igor Oistrach, Stefan Vladar, David Geringas, Diana Damrau, Hakan Hardenberger, Katja Ricciarelli, Miriam Gauci, Kurt Rydl, Sergej Larin, Nicola Martinucci, Eva Randová, Dagmar Pecková, Peter Dvorský, Rudolf Buchbinder, Alfons Kontarski, Leila Josefowicz, Christian Poltera, Fazil Sayem, etc.

Leoš Svárovský is also active as a teacher at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. He is a member of the Honorary Board of Directors of the Bratislava Metropolitan Orchestra.
